Green Leopard provides effective hearing protection for Airkix -

Arkix, the UK's leadig operator of purpose-built vertical wind tunnels, is using Green Leopard hearing protection systems to protect its instructors against long-term damage from prolonged exposure to wind speeds that often exceed 170 mph.

In its first two years, more than 80,000 customers have been taught how to skydive by Airkix instructors who can often spend up to five hours every day in the wind-tunnel.  It is also used by skydiving teams to hone their skills as well as training people how to skydive safely.

According to Axel Zohmann of Airkix, who has successfully completed more than 6500 jumps: "Green Leopard has provided us with the best ear protection systems.  They fit great, are comfortable over long periods of time and offer great noise reduction.

Airkix instructors all use Green Leopard custom hearing protection to fly both in the tunnel and free fall outdoors.  These can be retro fitted to the new voicebox headsets and receive only equipment.

Airkix News
"On the 8th March 2007 we entered the Guinness book of records with our skydivers successfully remaining airborne in freefall in our indoor wind tunnel for 1hr 23mins. We wanted to be able to communicate with our flyers inside the tunnel using two-way radios but due to the extreme 120mph + wind speed normal microphones would not work. We then looked at throat microphones with no success until we tried the CoolTalk VoiceBox throat microphone. With a little help from them were able to communicate from inside the tunnel for the first time! We are now continuing to work with Cooltalk to produce a communication solution for professional and leisure skydivers to use whilst in free fall inside the tunnel or in the open air helping with safety commands and make the experience much more enjoyable".

Green Leopard provides hearing protection for round the world trip

KETTERING, NORTHANTS, 4 SEPTEMBER 2007 - Green Leopard, one of the UK's leading suppliers of hearing protection systems, has supplied Lee William Wheeler with 2 sets of custom-moulded ear plugs for use during his round the world motorcycle trip. Encompassing over 30 countries and covering 150,000 miles through some of the worlds roughest terrains, the Green Leopard hearing protection system will enable Lee to travel in comfort and eliminate the damaging effects to long-term hearing of prolonged exposure to wind noise.

An effective hearing protection system became a top priority after researching the effect that riding his single cylinder BMW F650GS (Dakar) every day for two years would have. He discovered that the cumulative effective of the trip would mean that he lost about 15 years of quality hearing.

As one of the leading manufacturers of hearing protection products, he asked Green Leopard to recommend an effective solution that would last for the duration of his trip. After detailed discussions, moulded hearing protectors were recommended for his journey and two sets were supplied. They were custom moulded by Jim Brown, Lee's local Sheffield dealer.

According to Lee Wheeler: "I chose to wear my safety helmet very tight and normal headphones tend to press onto my ears making them hurt after about 20 minutes of riding. With Green Leopards however, I am able to ride for hours without pain and they provide a great balance between protection and being able to hear other road users."

After starting out in England Lee Wheeler is crossing Europe before heading south down Africa's coast to reach Cape Town. He will then be travelling up the west coast to reach the Congo before catching a ferry to South America from where he will head north until he reaches Alaska. From there, he will fly to Russia and then ride west until he reaches the UK in 2009.

Reporting back from his trip, Lee comments that he does not only use the Green Leopard system for riding: "They have also helped me get some great sleep in noisy environments including local hostel dormitories that seem to be filled with some of the worlds loudest snorers, and while camping at service stations where HGV's are constantly pulling up and leaving."

Lee Wheeler is updating his website regularly as the trip progresses. Visit http://650ridetheworld.com for the latest news
